SDLT Tape Drive with its new technologies

The SDLT tape drives utilize the highly effective PRML channel. PRML stands for “Partial Response Maximum Likelihood” and it was introduced by Lucent technologies and Quantum together. So this technology in SDLT tape format improves the data transfer rate, recording density and minimizes the errors.

The LGMR technology is used in the Super DLT tape format and its center is the “POS” (servo system). Backside of SDLT data tape has optical tracks. Laser reads these optical tracks and then the information related to the tracks is sent to the head pivoting assembly. The track densities of the SDLT tape technology increases as the heads is always positioned accurately by the track information.
